Purpose:
This study aims to evaluate the effects of different exercise modalities on cardiopulmonary function and ventricular remodeling in patients with myocardial infarction (MI) and seeks to identify the most effective exercise interventions.
Review Methods:
Five electronic databases were searched for eligible studies. The "Netmeta" package of the R4.2.2 software and the "Network" package of Stata15.0 software were used for statistical analysis. The study was registered in PROSPERO with the number: CRD42024560638.
Summary:
A total of 53 studies involving 3170 patients with MI were included. The meta-analysis results indicated that different exercise modes exhibit distinct effects on cardiopulmonary function and pathological cardiac remodeling in patients with MI. Moderate-intensity aerobic exercise significantly improved both cardiopulmonary function and indicators related to pathological cardiac remodeling. In addition, high-intensity interval training combined with resistance training demonstrated the greatest potential for improving peak oxygen uptake. Mind-body exercise was the most significant exercise mode to improve left ventricular ejection fraction and ventricular volume. Exercise training significantly improves cardiopulmonary health and alleviates pathological ventricular remodeling in patients with MI. Among the exercise modalities, moderate-intensity aerobic exercise appears to have the greatest overall potential. It is critical to individualize exercise prescriptions based on the specific needs and target outcomes of patients with MI.
