For several years now, the role of genetic medicine in patient care has steadily grown. The geneticist is involved in a wide range of clinical situations, from diagnosis to presymptomatic genetic counseling. The geneticist cares for patients of all ages with conditions spanning all medical specialties, which makes genetic medicine one of the most transversal disciplines. This diversity is illustrated through three emblematic genetic syndromes: Prader-Willi syndrome, fragile X syndrome, and 22q11.2 microdeletion syndrome. Each of these conditions requires a specific diagnostic approach and is associated with specific familial challenges and ethical considerations.
