Objective:
To investigate the association between precipitation and the risk of cardiovascular disease(CVD) mortality.
Methods:
A time-stratified case-crossover design was adopted, combined with conditional Logistic regression and distributed lag nonlinear model(DLNM), to assess the impact of precipitation and rainfall events(heavy rain events, torrential rain events) on the risk of CVD mortality among residents.
Results:
A J-shaped relationship was observed between precipitation and CVD mortality risk. Compared with small to moderate rain events, the risk of CVD mortality increased by 3.43%(95%CI 2.19%-4.68%) on the day of heavy rain events. The impact of torrential rain events was mainly manifested on the second lag day, and was more significant in the central China region and during autumn and winter, with the risk of CVD mortality increasing by 15.82%(95%CI 5.36%-27.31%), 9.13%(95%CI 3.45%-15.11%), and 48.35%(95%CI 25.33%-75.60%), respectively.
Conclusion:
Heavy rain and torrential rain events may increase the risk of CVD mortality.
