Global shortage of clinician-scientists in oral health.
Need for programs to foster research skills in dental students.

Purpose of the Study:

Evaluate the impact of the voluntary Innovation and Research Master Lecture Series (IRMLS) on dental students.
Assess student engagement and research-related outcomes.

Main Methods:

Retrospective observational study of a dual-track lecture series (2022-2024).
Analysis of attendance, academic performance (GPA), and research output (projects, publications).
Questionnaire survey of highly engaged participants (n=52).

Main Results:

IRMLS achieved over 80% undergraduate student reach with 3228 cumulative attendance instances.
Highest participation tier students maintained high GPAs and were linked to 90 research projects and 16 publications.
Participant feedback indicated high research interest (82.4%) and broadened perspectives (98.1%).

Conclusions:

Voluntary platforms like IRMLS can identify and support students with research drive.
The program complements compulsory dental curricula, though direct causal links to outcomes are limited by self-selection bias.
Observational data suggests IRMLS is a valuable extracurricular resource for aspiring clinician-scientists.
