Objectives:
To evaluate the structural validity of the Brazilian version of the Oral Health Impact Profile for Temporomandibular Disorders (OHIP-TMD-Br) and to compare its performance with the widely used OHIP-14 instrument.
Materials And Methods:
Sample of 72 patients completed both questionnaires. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were conducted. Sample adequacy was assessed using the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) measure and Bartlett's test of sphericity. CFA was performed using Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA), Tucker-Lewis Index (TLI), Comparative Fit Index (CFI), and Standardized Root Mean Square Residual (SRMR).
Results:
EFA demonstrated excellent sample adequacy for both instruments: KMO = 0.877 (OHIP-14) and 0.925 (OHIP-TMD-Br). Bartlett's test of sphericity was statistically significant (χ2(231) = 2378, p < 0.001), demonstrating inter-variable correlation. CFA validated the seven-domain structure of the OHIP-TMD-Br, with acceptable to excellent fit indices (RMSEA = 0.055; TLI = 1.012; CFI = 1.000; SRMR = 0.061). Convergent validity was confirmed by a strong Spearman correlation between the total scores of both instruments (r = 0.840). Customized Poisson regression demonstrated a positive association between the instruments.
Conclusion:
OHIP-TMD-Br proved to be a reliable and valid tool for assessing the impact of temporomandibular disorders on oral health-related quality of life in Brazil.
