Abstract:
Cadmium sulfide (CdS) is a promising inorganic semiconductor for solar-driven CO2 reduction. It is pivotal to promote the separation and migration of photogenerated charge carriers for achieving high photocatalytic efficiency. Herein, we present a photocatalytic CO2 reduction system (P-CdS/NiPPc) constructed by integrating phosphorus-doped CdS (P-CdS) with nickel polyphthalocyanine (NiPPc). The introduction of the P element into the CdS lattice broadens the visible light absorption range and redistributes electron density, which collectively facilitates the separation and transfer of photogenerated charge carriers within CdS. NiPPc serves as a cocatalyst, the formation of the dyad between P-CdS and NiPPc promotes photogenerated electron transfer at the interface and provides effective active sites for CO2 reduction, thereby significantly expediting photocatalytic CO2 reduction kinetics. The photocatalytic CO evolution rate of P-CdS/NiPPc is up to 483 µmol g-1 h-1, which is remarkably higher than those of P-CdS (12 µmol g-1 h-1) and NiPPc (1 µmol g-1 h-1). This work provides a rational and effective approach to construct CdS-based photocatalytic systems for solar-to-chemical conversion.
