Abstract:
Social behavior is an integrated output that is actively selected based on internal states and contextual factors, including arousal, emotional state, and previous social experience. Recently, the paraventricular thalamus (PVT) has emerged as a state-dependent hub connected to the prefrontal cortex and limbic regions, transforming arousal-, stress-, and motivation-related signals into behavioral outputs. This review discusses how developmental social experiences reshape prefrontal PVT circuits and regulate social approaches and avoidance behaviors in adulthood at circuit and behavioral levels.
