Adjunctive Mediterranean Diet in a Middle-Aged Male With Autoimmune Encephalitis and Generalized Tonic-Clonic

Abstract:
We describe a 45-year-old male with autoimmune encephalitis and recurrent tonic-clonic seizures. In addition to receiving standard immunotherapy, he adopted a Mediterranean diet as adjunctive therapy. Six months later, brain MRI showed resolution of the hippocampal hyperintensities and a reduction in periventricular white matter changes; EEG demonstrated normal background activity without epileptiform discharges.
