Supervision Programs Implemented by Nurses to Caregivers in the Community: A Scoping Review

Objective:
To map supervisory programs implemented by nurses to caregivers in the community.
Methods:
A scoping review was conducted following JBI methodology and the PRISMA-ScR checklist. Twelve databases and sources were searched for published and unpublished studies in English, Portuguese and Spanish since 1993. Two independent reviewers selected studies on nurse-led supervisory programs for informal caregivers in community settings.
Results:
Eleven studies were included. Programs consisted predominantly of educational sessions of varying duration and frequency, complemented by skills training, home visits and follow-up contacts. One program used telehealth-based interventions. All programs aimed to train caregivers to promote care quality and safety. The home was the most common implementation context.
Discussion And Recommendations:
Nurse-led supervisory programs strengthen caregiver support through education and training, reducing caregiver burden and improving care quality. The mapped evidence suggests that structured supervisory programs incorporating educational sessions and follow-up contacts may benefit informal caregivers in community settings. Telehealth strategies may warrant further exploration as complementary approaches. Further research with rigorous designs and larger samples is needed to evaluate the effectiveness of these programs.

Rural health centers are specialized care facilities in remote locations with very few medical personnel. The primary care providers who run the centers are mostly Registered Nurse Practitioners. Here, emergency treatment is provided to critically ill or injured patients before they are transferred to the closest hospital. Fortunately, due to advancement in technology, many rural healthcare facilities and professionals have easy access to diagnostic and treatment...
