Abstract:
Abnormal uric acid (UA) levels are closely correlated with the onset and progression of gout, renal dysfunction, and cardiovascular diseases, establishing UA as a pivotal biomarker for clinical diagnosis and longitudinal health monitoring. It is nevertheless acknowledged that the precise UA detection in bodily fluids remains a formidable challenge. Consequently, the development of highly sensitive and selective UA sensing platforms has emerged as a critical imperative. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have garnered substantial attention as ideal candidates for luminescent UA sensing, owing to their structurally tailorable architectures, chemically diverse building blocks, and exceptional luminescent performance. To elaborate on the evolutionary landscape of MOF-based luminescent sensors for UA detection, further dissect their structure-activity correlations, and offer targeted insights for the rational design of next-generation UA sensing platforms, this review summarizes the iterative developments in MOF-based luminescent UA sensors in a decade (2016-2026). It elaborates on the multifaceted design strategies, intrinsic luminescence sources, and underlying sensing mechanisms of MOF-based luminescent UA sensors, while also critically addressing their current bottlenecks and outlining prospective insights, thereby providing a robust theoretical and technical foundation for the development of more sensitive, selective, and biocompatible MOF-based UA detection luminescent platforms.
