Regulating KO2 deposition via crystal-void size matching in K-O2 batteries

Abstract:
The viability of K-O2 batteries (POBs) remains constrained by limited capacity due to insufficient KO2 accommodation. We show that pore architecture of gas-diffusion-layers dictates KO2 deposition behaviors: size-matched voids enable bulk accommodation while mismatched voids trigger premature surface passivation. A crystal-void size-matching principle is proposed for high-capacity POBs.
