Abstract:
Spectral weighting functions (SWF) were measured for lateralization of complex tones via interaural time difference (ITD), with higher frequency resolution (1/4-octave) compared to prior studies. SWFs revealed a region of dominant ITD weight spanning 400-1000 Hz on average and dropping precipitously between 1000 and 1400 Hz. SWF peak frequencies varied across individuals and favored lower frequencies on trials which presented larger overall ITD values (±200 μs), consistent with the expected relationship between frequency and the range of unambiguous ITD.
