Abstract:
A scoping study for suitable materials for neutron-activation measurement of reaction-in-flight neutrons is presented. Only reactions with neutrons in the exit channel were considered because of their higher cross sections in comparison with reactions producing protons or α-particles. More relaxed criteria for the reaction threshold and the half-life of the product nucleus were used to help with a variety of projects. We identified six reactions convenient for measuring neutrons with energies above 14.5 MeV and another 11 reactions producing short-lived isotopes convenient for building online activation detectors.
