Clinical competencies in brachytherapy: Breast

Breast brachytherapy is an effective and highly conformal option for adjuvant accelerated partial breast irradiation in the definitive treatment of early-stage breast cancer. Despite the numerous benefits, brachytherapy standards and education are lacking. This paper aims to provide a solid foundation on clinical considerations, procedural techniques, and planning guidelines for breast brachytherapy. It includes implant procedures and planning directives for both multicatheter interstitial and single-entry implants. Written as part of the Clinical Competencies in Brachytherapy series, the goal is to provide expert opinion and data on the practical knowledge needed to successfully complete breast brachytherapy.
