This study demonstrates a rational molecular design strategy for the construction of well-defined polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) fragments through regioselective functionalization at the active 1,3-positions and the sterically hindered 2-position of the pyrene core. The emission properties can be finely tuned by modulating the electronic nature of the substituents.
