Facial rejuvenation with autologous exosomes released from preconditioned platelet-rich plasma using the meta cell

Background:
Safe, noninvasive or minimally invasive techniques are available for facial rejuvenation. Recent research on exosomes has revealed promising avenues for new treatment options.
Objective:
This pilot study aimed to assess the efficacy of a facial rejuvenation treatment using autologous exosomes derived from preconditioned platelet-rich plasma with the Meta Cell Technology (MCT) System.
Methods:
A prospective, single-center, randomized, controlled pilot study was conducted in patients with facial aging signs. Participants received 3 sessions of autologous exosomes obtained using the MCT System. Outcomes were evaluated by measuring the subepidermal low-echogenic band (SLEB) using ultrasonography, capturing photographs with a compact stereophotogrammetric 3-dimensional imaging system, and obtaining patient-reported feedback on skin appearance and improvement.
Results:
Eleven patients (100% women; mean age, 57 ± 4.1 years; range, 51-65) were enrolled, and 9 (81.8%) completed the study. One month after the final treatment, ultrasonographic measurements demonstrated a mean reduction in SLEB thickness of 61.4% at the cheekbone and 39.35% at the cheek. Patient-reported outcomes indicated that 77.8% of participants perceived improvement in skin appearance.
Conclusion:
Treatment with autologous exosomes obtained using the MCT System was well tolerated and resulted in substantial facial rejuvenation, reducing SLEB thickness and enhancing patients' perceived skin quality.
