Abstract:
A copillar[5]arene DP has been developed that acts as an efficient adsorbent for molecular sieving of toluene (Tol) from an equivolume mixture of Tol and methylcyclohexane (MCH) with high selectivity in a very short time. By tuning host-guest interactions in pillararene, selective adsorption has been achieved through the intrinsic cavity and extrinsic channels within the crystalline molecular adsorbent. The inclusion is driven by several weak forces, such as C-H⋯π and π⋯π interactions. The macrocycle DP exhibits exceptional recyclability.
