Revisiting chiroptical activity of the first holey fullerene

Abstract:
A chiral holey [60]fullerene was first reported several decades ago, but how it achieves a high dissymmetry factor has not yet been determined. In our current work, we developed an understanding of the origin of its chirality and of its robust chiroptical activity. From the Cotton effects corresponding to its lowest-energy transition, its stereoconfiguration was re-assigned, correcting the erroneous one previously derived from the empirical sector rule.
