Abstract:
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) results in lifelong insulin therapy, but most people with T1D do not achieve glycemic targets using insulin alone. Adjunctive therapies such as once-weekly glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RA) are approved for type 2 diabetes and also treat obesity, which is a growing concern in people with T1D. In this article, we review what is currently known about weekly GLP-1RA treatment in people with T1D, we will discuss the gaps in knowledge remaining, and we will outline the additional trials needed to close these knowledge gaps.
