Rhodium/copper dual catalysis for defluorinative annulation of gem-difluorocyclopropanes with phenols

Abstract:
Herein, we report rhodium/copper dual catalysis for defluorinative ring-opening coupling/annulation of gem-difluorocyclopropanes with phenols. This protocol provides a concise and practical method to construct 2-methylbenzofuran derivatives through consecutive C-F bond cleavage and C-O bond formation, with generally moderate to good yields and high chemo- and regio-selectivity. Mechanistically, our unique rhodium/copper dual catalysis leads to a distinctive defluorinative cyclization pathway to enable benzofuran formation.
