Introduction:
Preservation rhinoplasty is an increasingly popular alternative to structural rhinoplasty. However, concerns remain regarding potential nasal airway narrowing and the limited availability of objective postoperative functional data.
Objectives And Hypotheses:
To review and analyze current studies assessing functional outcomes of preservation rhinoplasty, with or without comparison to structural rhinoplasty.
Study Design:
Systematic review and meta-analysis of functional outcomes in preservation rhinoplasty.
Methods:
A comprehensive database search identified studies using key words. Eligible studies that were included reported original quantitative data using validated functional outcome measures (NOSE, SCHNOS-O, VAS-F, SNOT-22, or rhinometry).
Results:
A total of 22 studies (n = 2,058) met inclusion criteria. Controlled studies showed no significant difference between preservation and structural rhinoplasty outcomes, while uncontrolled studies demonstrated postoperative improvement from baseline.
Conclusion:
Preservation and structural rhinoplasty yield comparable functional results, both significantly improving validated patient-reported outcome measures.
