Abstract:
Electrospray-generated charged water microdroplets drive stepwise fragmentation of WS2 sheets of micrometer dimensions into nanoparticles, under ambient conditions. Systematic variation of the tip-to-substrate distance (L) and applied voltage (V) results in 100-fold lateral size reduction (1-2 µm to ∼11 nm), mapped along a (L,V) matrix. The 2H polymorph is fully retained throughout, as confirmed by HAADF-STEM, HRTEM, and Raman spectroscopy, highlighting charged microdroplets as a platform for sustainable, phase-preserved synthesis of nanomaterials.
