Abstract:
Metal-organic B←N frameworks containing gold complexes were obtained by linking Au3(pyrazolate)3 complexes to di- or triboronate esters via dative boron-nitrogen bonds. The dynamic nature of the B←N interactions facilitated the formation of highly crystalline materials, enabling structural characterization by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Both the one- and two-dimensional polymers showed substantial solvent-filled voids. Solution-phase exchange of the solvents with halobenzenes induced pronounced structural changes of the polymeric frameworks. The combination of crystallinity and structural adaptability demonstrates the potential of dative B←N bonds in the design of new metal-based framework materials.

In these complexes, transition metals form coordinate covalent bonds, a kind of Lewis acid-base interaction in which both of the electrons in the bond are contributed by a donor (Lewis base) to an electron acceptor (Lewis acid). The Lewis acid in...

π Molecular Orbitals of 1,3-Butadiene
The simplest conjugated diene is 1,3-butadiene: a four-carbon system where each carbon is sp2-hybridized and has an unhybridized p orbital that contains an unpaired electron. According to molecular orbital theory, atomic orbitals combine to form molecular orbitals such that the number...
