Area of Science:
- * Public Health
- * Sport Science
- * Education
Background:
- * Physical literacy is a holistic framework integrating physical, affective, cognitive, and social elements.
- * The field currently lacks a comprehensive roadmap for research, practice, and policy.
- * There is a growing recognition of physical literacy's importance across various sectors.
Purpose of the Study:
- * To define the content of a Global Physical Literacy (GloPL) Action Framework.
- * To establish goals, principles, actions, and pathways for advancing physical literacy worldwide.
- * To create a unified approach for global physical literacy initiatives.
Main Methods:
- * A group Delphi study involving 59 academics, 7 literature gap representatives, and 24 organizational representatives from 46 countries.
- * Online surveys for idea generation, followed by reflexive thematic analysis.
- * Six online meetings and two rounds of formal voting with pre-defined agreement thresholds.
Main Results:
- * Analysis yielded 849 initial codes grouped into five themes: advocacy, practice, education, assessment, and research.
- * Fifteen central topics were discussed, with consensus reached on key recommendations.
- * Recommendations include establishing core principles, generating resources, aligning curricula, population-level assessment, and emphasizing implementation science.
Conclusions:
- * Consensus findings will inform the Global Physical Literacy (GloPL) Action Framework.
- * The framework aims to guide coordinated global actions in education, public health, sport, and healthcare.
- * It signifies the start of a dynamic process for advancing physical literacy across diverse settings.
