Abstract:
Considering the current reality of the Armed Forces, implementing recruitment and retention strategies is essential to the sector´s functioning, particularly through the adoption of career management practices. The present systematic literature review examines existing career management practices in the Armed Forces across four databases: Scopus, Web of Science, Armed Forces & Society, and Military Psychology. This research followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, including screening 253 studies and selecting 44 articles. Our results highlight the importance of career development practices, including organizational practices such as mentoring and training programs, as well as career self-management behaviors like exploration. These practices impact successful career development and transition, both within and outside the Armed Forces.
