Liposomes are formed from phospholipids, which are the main components of biological membranes, and are widely used as models of biological membranes. Ganglioside-reconstituted liposomes can be prepared by mixing with phospholipids, providing a model system that closely mimics the cell surface environment. Liposome systems are used in various studies, including investigations of the biological functions of gangliosides and their applications in drug delivery systems (DDS). In this chapter, we describe the preparation and characterization of ganglioside-reconstituted liposomes.
