Agreement between slit lamp retroillumination pictures and Scheimpflug retroillumination display for toric IOLs

Purpose:
To assess agreement in measuring the orientation axis of toric intraocular lenses (IOLs) between retroillumination photography and the retroillumination-based software of the Pentacam AXL Wave.
Design:
Prospective case series.
Methods:
Under pupil dilation, retroillumination slit-lamp photographs were acquired and exported into Photoshop to measure of the orientation axis. Subsequently, the orientation axis was measured with the IOL Measurement Tool available on the Pentacam AXL Wave within the Iris/Retro Image Display.
Results:
Forty-two eyes (42 patients) were enrolled. The mean difference between the two methods was 0.88 ±2.03° (range: -3.4° to +5.70°). An absolute difference within 5° was found in 41 out of 42 eyes (97.6%) and the 2 measurements showed a high correlation (r = 0.99, p <0.0001) and agreement (95% limits of agreement ranging between -3.10° and +4.87°).
Conclusions:
The orientation axis of toric IOLs can be accurately measured with the built-in software of the Pentacam AXL Wave.
