Abstract:
N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most extensively characterized internal RNA modification in eukaryotic mRNAs and non-coding RNAs, exerting broad effects on gene expression in diverse plant biological processes. m6A is installed by methyltransferases "writers", removed by demethylases "erasers", and recognized by binding proteins "readers", whose interactions with co-transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulators confer specificity and context dependence. In this GraphView, we summarize plant m6A writers, erasers, and readers, and discuss remaining challenges and applications in this rapidly advancing field.
