Abstract:
This article provides an evidence-based approach to the sedation of pediatric and elderly patients in the dental office, 2 populations at highest risk for sedation-related complications. It reviews age-specific physiological and pharmacological considerations, recommended sedative agents, dosing strategies, and monitoring requirements. Special emphasis is placed on pre-procedure assessment, airway and medication risk stratification, and safety protocols. The goal of this article is to support clinicians in delivering effective sedation while minimizing adverse events in these vulnerable patient populations.
