Abstract:
The multidimensional nature of dermatology-encompassing pediatric, medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology and grounded in visual diagnosis, procedural care, dermatopathologic correlation, and longitudinal disease monitoring-demands electronic medical record systems tailored to the specialty. In parallel, dermatologic practice requires fully integrated practice management systems capable of supporting precise documentation and accurate assignment of dermatology-specific CPT codes tied to granular anatomic skin locations. This article examines leadership and strategic considerations underlying the development of dermatology-specific electronic medical record platforms, emphasizing physician-led design, workflow alignment, and operational scalability, and explores how structured dermatologic data provide the foundation for emerging artificial intelligence applications.
