Abstract:
The selective electrochemical conversion of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) remains challenging due to slow kinetics and competing oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Here, a NiFe-LDH@ZIF-67 composite electrocatalyst is presented that integrates a porous framework with redox-active sites to promote efficient HMF oxidation. The optimized NiFe-LDH@ZIF-67 (1 : 0.5) composite delivers near-complete HMF conversion (∼99%), a high FDCA yield (∼93%), and an excellent faradaic efficiency (FE, ∼99%) under ambient conditions. This demonstrates enhanced activity and selectivity towards sustainable FDCA production.
