Abstract:
In an overlooked but common phenomenon, bacteria colonize fungi and change how the eukaryotic microbe inhabits niches. In this issue, Wei et al. present a comprehensive look at an endofungal bacterium, identifying a mechanism to change plant disease outcomes through antagonism of beneficial soil microbes.
