Abstract:
The interplay between cardiac and neurologic involvement in systemic amyloidosis is critical to understanding the full clinical burden of the disease. While cardiac involvement remains the most powerful determinant of prognosis, concomitant neurologic manifestations substantially impair patients' quality of life and functional status. The coexistence of these 2 phenotypes is particularly prevalent in ATTR-related amyloidosis, where both peripheral and central nervous system involvement may accompany, and at times precede, cardiac disease. Early recognition of both domains of involvement is essential to timely initiation of disease-modifying.
