Abstract:
Recent literature has investigated adverse events reported in the United States Food and Drug Administration's Manufacturer and User Facility Device Experience database associated with all-inside meniscal repair to determine if specific device types showed a pattern of adverse events. Three specific types of meniscus repair devices were identified: an all-suture repair, a repair with a solid (rigid) anchor and no knot on the meniscus surface, and a solid anchor with a knot remaining on the meniscus surface. Results suggest that meniscus repair systems using rigid anchors while avoiding a knot on the meniscal surface (extra-capsular knot) are associated with fewer problems reported than the all-suture repair devices or rigid anchors with a knot on the meniscal surface. Some manufactures are much slower in reporting adverse events than all others. In this report, the names of the repair devices or manufacturers are not included.
