Biomarker-guided implant risk tool for predicting peri-implantitis occurrence: A long-term retrospective study
Purpose:
To evaluate the long-term prognostic value of a biomarker-guided implant risk tool in predicting the occurrence of peri-implantitis.
Materials And Methods:
From a pool of private implant patients enrolled in a supportive care programme for at least 10 years, 80 partially edentulous subjects were recruited and evaluated retrospectively. A prognostic score was estimated based on the area under the curve for receiver operating characteristic including 95% confidence intervals. Analyses were performed at the patient level.
Results:
The mean implant follow-up period was 10.5 years. Incidence of peri-implantitis was 17.5%. The percentage of cases at high risk of peri-implantitis according to the biomarker-guided implant risk tool was 27.6%. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for the biomarker-guided implant risk tool was 0.836 for peri-implantitis events. A high biomarker-guided implant risk score was significantly associated with incidence of peri-implantitis, with a hazard ratio of 4.8.
Conclusion:
The biomarker-guided implant risk tool might represent a promising means to assess patients at high risk of developing peri-implantitis.
