Effects of Non-Pharmacological Interventions on Motor Function in Children and Adolescents With Intellectual

Purpose:
This network meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate and rank the effects of different exercise interventions on balance and coordination in children and adolescents with intellectual disability (ID).
Methods:
Multiple databases, including CBM, CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, PubMed, Web of Science, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), the Cochrane Library, and Embase, were systematically searched from inception to 23 December 2025. A total of 25 randomized controlled trials involving 897 participants were included.
Results:
Based on ranking probabilities, functional training combined with sensory rehabilitation programs showed relatively favorable effects on both balance and coordination.
Conclusion:
Overall, the findings suggest that exercise interventions may be effective strategies for enhancing motor function in children and adolescents with ID.
