Abstract:
Information and communication technology (ICT) is increasingly promoted to support health and participation among older adults. However, the conditions under which older adults perceive ICT as usable in their daily lives remain unclear. This qualitative descriptive study explored the conditions referenced by community-dwelling older adults when judging whether ICT could be used in everyday life after completing an ICT-based occupational therapy program. Focus group discussions were conducted with 20 participants and analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Six interrelated conditions were identified: psychological safety, potential for integration into daily life, alignment with personal values, functions supporting self-regulation, accessibility of support, and preservation of autonomous choice. These findings suggest that perceived autonomous ICT use is shaped not only by technical skills but also by psychological, contextual, and relational conditions that may support perceived usability and anticipated integration of ICT into everyday occupations.
