Abstract:
Transitioning from natural teeth to prostheses is challenging for both patients and clinicians. Particularly, achieving adequate support, retention, and stability for conventional removable dentures is difficult when the opposing arch is restored using fixed prostheses. A 65-year-old man complained of pain, loose crowns, a fixed partial denture (FPD), and an inability to chew properly. The patient was treated with a combination of a maxillary implant-supported overdenture with a computer-assisted design/computer-assisted milling bar and mandibular fixed prostheses, including natural-tooth and implant-supported crowns and FPD. This report describes the crucial steps (impression making, recording the jaw relation, and designing the final prosthesis) involved in the combination of fixed and removable options. The findings in this case suggest that a maxillary implant-supported overdenture with a milled bar is a viable option for restoring esthetics, phonetics, and occlusal function in patients with mandibular crowns and FPDs.
