Abstract:
Nanoemulgel technology has been widely recognized for its potential to design efficient topical dosage forms by leveraging the solubilizing properties of nanoemulsions and the advantageous application properties of gels. This synergy is highly advantageous for countering the drawbacks of conventional topical formulations, including impaired delivery of lipophilic and poorly water-soluble drugs. In this review, recent developments in nanoemulgel formulations are highlighted, with particular focus on how associated formulation variables, preparation techniques, and key physicochemical factors affect therapeutic efficacy. Rather than delving into basic details, features such as particle size, surface charge, stability, and drug release patterns in a formulation are explained in terms of formulation quality and therapeutic usefulness. The therapeutic application of nanoemulgels in dermatological, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and cosmetic applications is exemplified to clarify improvements in therapeutic efficacy, decreased systemic toxicity, and increased patient acceptability. Current trends in nano-emulgels, including targeted delivery designs, personalized formulation designs, and biocompatible excipients, are mentioned briefly. From the present evidence, the validity and future potential of nano-Emulgel technology in general, and its clinically significant application in designing efficient topical drug delivery, are evident.
