Using creative health approaches in nursing practice: implications for the care of older people

The role of creative health approaches - including arts, music, movement and nature-based activities - is increasingly recognised in national policy as supporting well-being, connection and person-centred care for older people. Moreover, nurse education is beginning to explore creative health placements as a way of preparing students for holistic, community-focused practice. This article discusses the relevance of creative health to nurses working with older people across care homes, community services and acute care settings. Drawing on international evidence and insights from creative health placements for nursing students, it explores potential benefits for older people's well-being. The article concludes by outlining practical implications for practice and education, showing how creative health can enhance nurses' well-being as well as everyday care for older people.
