Abstract:
Cyclodextrin-based polymers are a versatile class of emerging materials with unique supramolecular host-guest interaction features. Their diverse functional groups, hydrophobic cavities, and hydrophilic exteriors make them intriguing materials. These structural advantages promote molecular recognition, the absorption of guest molecules in their cavities, and the selective adsorption of guest molecules by the functional groups on their external surface. Recent research highlights that cyclodextrin polymers can simultaneously leverage supramolecular host-guest interactions and chelating ability to adsorb inorganic, organic, and microbial contaminants from water. They can also enhance the stability and performance of perovskite solar cell devices. This paper discusses the multifaceted function of cyclodextrin polymers and outlines the broad applicability of cyclodextrin-based materials in water purification and in metal halide perovskite solar cell devices.
