PATIENT SATISFACTION FOLLOWING UROLOGY RETURN VISITS BASED ON PROVIDER TYPE

We aimed to evaluate patient satisfaction with Urology return visits between Advanced Practice Providers (APP) and Physicians in a tertiary Urology practice.

Outpatient Urology visits between January 2023 to June 2024 were obtained from electronic medical records. Patients who completed a Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey after return visits were identified. Return visits were conducted either by a physician or APP. The objective was to evaluate the Topbox score defined by the percentage of patients who selected "Very Good" for each survey question. Chi-square tests were utilized to compare the differences for both provider types.

A total of 2522 patients completed the survey, including 1060 patients who saw a physician and 1462 patients who saw an APP. There was no significant difference in patient satisfaction as both cohorts received similar ratings for each question. This included the rating of overall care received (93.7% vs. 93.2%; p=0.64), concern the provider showed for questions/worries (92.3% vs 92.8%; p=0.66), explanation the provider gave about the condition/problem (92.4% vs 93.6%; p=0.26), and discussion of proposed treatment (92.3% vs 91.6%; p=0.54) for physicians and APPs respectively.Additional ratings included the friendless/courtesy of the provider (95.0% vs 95.5%; p=0.68), confidence level (95.2% vs 94.1%; p=0.31), ability for the provider to use words that the patient could understand (94.2% vs 93.9%; p=0.79), and instructions given about follow up care (91.7% vs 92.3%; p=0.67).

There is no difference in Press Ganey patient satisfaction scores between physicians and APPs with regards to Urology return visits.
