Purpose:
To report a novel observation of peripheral inner retinal dimples (IRDs) in a patient with X-linked retinoschisis (XLRS).
Methods:
A 30-year-old male with molecularly confirmed XLRS presented for his regular follow up with a new complaint of photopsia for the past month preceding examination. He underwent complete ophthalmological examination and multimodal imaging with special emphasis on peripheral retinal changes. Ultrawide-field color fundus photography, fundus autofluorescence (FAF), fluorescein angiography optical coherence tomography angiography (UWF-OCTA) were done.
Results:
His best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 20/40 in the right eye and 20/60 in the left eye with unremarkable anterior segment examination. Fundus examination demonstrated foveoschisis associated with peripheral retinal changes most notable in the inferiorotemporal quadrant manifesting as with horizontal, band-like vitreous membrane. UWF multimodal imaging confirmed presence of inner retinal dimples which corresponded to hyporeflective dark spots observed on enface OCT and UWF OCTA.
Conclusion:
To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of IRDs in the inferotemporal quadrants of the peripheral retinae in a patient with XLRS.
