WorldSense paradigm: A multi-sensory framework for understanding reality
1Clinical Psychology Department, Adler Univerisity, Chicago, USA.
Abstract:
The WorldSense Paradigm offers a holistic framework for community psychology, integrating multi-sensory cognition, relational ontology, ancestral guidance, environmental forces, and spiritual dynamics. By moving beyond the visual-centric assumptions of Western epistemology, this paradigm provides a culturally grounded approach that is especially illustrative in African contexts, where ancestral, spiritual, and ecological interdependencies shape well-being. Incorporating the WorldSense Paradigm into practice encourages community psychologists to engage with communities through multi-modal, relational, and spiritually informed methodologies. By privileging these epistemologies, the paradigm addresses the limitations of Eurocentric frameworks, enabling practitioners to better capture lived realities, anticipate complex community dynamics, and co-create interventions that resonate with culturally grounded ways of knowing.

Sensory Modalities
General senses refer to the broad category of sensory information detected by receptors in the body and can be further grouped into somatic and visceral senses. Somatic sensations include touch, pressure, temperature, and pain and are essential for navigating our environment and...
Perception
Bottom-up processing begins at the sensory level, where receptors detect external environmental stimuli. These could include the tactile sensation of...
Sensory Perception: Organization of the Somatosensory System
The receptor level:
The receptor level is the first stage of sensation. It involves the detection of a stimulus by specialized sensory receptors. The stimulus must arrive within the receptor's receptive field. Next, the receptor converts the energy of the stimulus...
