Refined classification and surgical techniques for alar base reduction in rhinoplasty: A stepwise approach for
Background:
Alar base surgery is a key component of rhinoplasty for achieving balanced nasal proportions and harmony with facial features. Variations in nasal base morphology affect both aesthetic and functional outcomes.
Methods:
We present a practical classification framework for alar base deformities and describe a stepwise surgical approach tailored to patient-specific anatomical and ethnic characteristics. Surgical strategies for wide alar base, isolated flare, combined deformities, thick alar base, and thick lobule are outlined. Practical intraoperative pearls and tissue-sparing techniques are emphasized.
Results:
Individualized incision design and resection pattern allowed precise correction of nasal base asymmetry while preserving natural nostril contour. Postoperative outcomes demonstrated improved nasal aesthetics with minimal scarring.
Conclusion:
A structured approach to alar base surgery, guided by a practical classification system and patient-specific planning, optimizes aesthetic results and maintains functional integrity.
