Abstract:
Intrauterine contents are a common ultrasound finding in bitches, with variable significance. Clinical, analytical and histopathological findings were compared between symptomatic and asymptomatic bitches with intrauterine contents that underwent ovariohysterectomy. In this cross-sectional study, the majority were symptomatic (87.9%, 123/140). Cystic endometrial hyperplasia was the most frequent lesion, with greater severity in symptomatic bitches. Uterine disease in bitches showed a heterogeneous presentation. Haematological and biochemical abnormalities were common in both groups and showed a limited association with clinical signs. Further research is needed to determine the true role of haematological and biochemical markers as indicators of the clinical severity of uterine disease.
