Abstract:
Despite the crucial role of cumulus cells (CCs) in oocyte maturation and fertilisation, their physiology and metabolism remain poorly understood. The present study describes a novel method to assess CCs metabolism using flow cytometry. A triple staining was performed on CCs to evaluate viability, reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, and mitochondrial activity. The results support the reliability of this method, as cells with reduced mitochondrial activity also presented low ROS levels and viability. In conclusion, this approach provides a useful technique for studying the metabolic activity of CCs.
