Body-Scale-Invariant Motion Embedding for Reliable Motion Comparison
Abstract:
Assessing human motion similarity from video is challenging because viewpoint changes, scale ambiguity, and pose-estimation noise entangle motion dynamics with subject-specific anatomy. Pose-based metrics can therefore penalize semantically identical motions performed by people with different body scales or limb proportions, a serious limitation for rehabilitation assessment. We propose Body-Scale-Invariant Motion Embeddings, a framework for learning motion representations that reduce anatomical bias while preserving action semantics. Rather than treating intra-skeletal retargeting only as a generation task, we use it as a self-supervised objective for scale-invariant representation learning. Our Conditional Autoencoder conditions the decoder on target skeletal parameters so that the latent code is encouraged to encode motion rather than morphology. We evaluate the approach on synthetic video data and a clinical rehabilitation dataset, using ablations and downstream similarity classification to analyze its utility.

However, to express the relative position of point B relative to point A, an additional frame of reference, denoted as x'y', is necessary. This additional frame not only translates but also rotates relative to the fixed frame, making it instrumental in...
Absolute Motion Analysis- General Plane Motion
As the drone's propellers rotate, an upward force is generated that counteracts the force of gravity, enabling the drone to lift off from the ground. This initial movement of the drone is along a straight path, representing a form of translational motion. In this phase, every point on the drone...

Relative Motion Analysis - Velocity
When an external force is exerted, it sets the crank into a rotational movement. This, in turn, instigates the motion of the connecting rod, leading to what is referred to as a general plane motion. This process involves two key points - point A on the connecting rod...
