Abstract:
Significant medical advancements in pediatric cancer have been achieved over the last several decades, leading to substantial and welcome improvements in overall survivability rates for these young patients. Alongside these novel and revised oncologic treatment strategies, however, come secondary debilitating effects, functional deficits, and overall poorer qualities of life. Future research should strengthen the evidence base for hospital-based pediatric oncologic rehabilitation through larger prospective studies and multicenter collaborations aimed at establishing standardized protocols. Particular attention should be directed toward incorporating prehabilitation into pediatric oncology care, as this strategy holds significant promise in mitigating treatment-related inactivity and functional decline.
