Abstract:
Childhood trauma can affect brain development, influencing memory and processing speed, particularly in adults with ADHD. A study involving 237 participants investigated how childhood trauma relates to cognition in adults with ADHD and internalizing disorders. The group consisted of 109 with ADHD and 128 with additional internalizing conditions, averaging 30 years old with 16 years of education; 40% were male. Results showed no direct link between trauma and cognitive deficits in processing speed or verbal memory. Premorbid IQ was the strongest predictor, suggesting a protective effect. Future research should investigate long-term trauma effects and detailed trauma assessments. .
